SARAGA International Grocery-Indianapolis

Of course this would be the first place any person would start if discussing food in Indianapolis ....SARAGA International Grocery!

This is my favorite place in Indianapolis.  I worked here for two years as a cashier.  People don't think much of  a job as a cashier, but at SARAGA you learn and take on a  lot of responsibilities in this position.  This is a place where all nationalities come to shop and I don't think you can find that anywhere else. If you are a customer please say hello to your cashiers, they work hard, as you probably already know.

SARAGA started out in Bloomington, Indiana.  The store was the size of  a hospital waiting room...maybe a smig bigger.  The grocery store at the time sold predominantly asian food.   I lived in Bloomington at the time.  My mother is from Okinawa, Japan and she was happy to be able to find food that she was familier with and also to meet Korean women who have moved from their native county  to Bloomington, Indiana.   Similarly to my mother  others have done the same.

Now the grocery store has expanded drastically, offering foods from the Middle East, East Asia, Southeast Asia,  Central and South America, Africa, and Europe!  Locations are on the south and west side of Indianapolis.
These types of grocery stores around the U.S allow immigrants who have come here to hold onto what is dear to them about their homelands and allow others to experience their  homeland.  If you are looking for a little adventure, I promise that you will not be disappointed.
